7 days ago 0

The wife of Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy has shown improvement after being wounded in a shooting at the couple’s home in Northern Virginia. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid updated the media about Mia Bieniemy’s condition at the team’s training camp in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Mia Bieniemy, 57, continues to recover after the incident, which allegedly involved the couple’s adult son. Reid reported that she is no longer in intensive care and is making progress. ‘She’s doing great,’ Reid said. ‘She’s out of the ICU and making progress.’

Their son, Elijah Zion Bieniemy, 27, faces charges following the incident. According to a sheriff’s statement, he was booked on suspicion of malicious wounding and firearm-related offenses. The authorities have labeled the incident a ‘domestic’ disturbance but have not disclosed a motive.

The dramatic scene unfolded on Sunday evening in Ashburn, a suburb of Washington, D.C. Video footage captured law enforcement’s response as deputies carried Mia Bieniemy from the home, while others, armed, approached the house. Despite her injuries, she managed to call 911 for help.

According to the criminal complaint, Elijah Bieniemy fired a .22-caliber Ruger, causing injuries to his mother’s forearm and shoulder as the projectile traveled across her chest. He is currently in custody at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center, with a court appearance scheduled for August 31.

Eric Bieniemy, 56, remains by his wife’s side. Holding a prominent position with the Kansas City Chiefs, he oversees the team’s offense, which includes stars like quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce. It remains uncertain when he will return to his duties with preseason starting August 15 and the regular season on September 14. Coach Reid confirmed ongoing communication with Eric, sharing practice tapes and keeping him updated.

Attempts to reach representatives for the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office and Public Defender for comments were unsuccessful on Wednesday.
