Marjorie Taylor Greene Criticizes Trump’s Approach to Military Actions
Former Republican U.S. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene expressed strong disapproval of President Donald Trump and his team during her appearance with Kaitlan Collins on CNN. Greene argued that Trump’s advisors are undermining him by not holding him accountable for his past declarations on avoiding wars.
Greene pointed to Trump’s repeated campaign pledges to steer clear of initiating ‘new wars’ and getting entangled in foreign military engagements. Her criticism comes in the wake of Trump’s administration increasingly defending military operations as essential responses to incidents around the Strait of Hormuz. U.S. Central Command confirmed that Trump had approved retaliatory ‘self-defense’ strikes following the downing of a U.S. Apache helicopter near the strategic waterway, an attack attributed to Iran by U.S. officials. Reports, however, suggest uncertainty persists regarding whether the helicopter was intentionally targeted or fell victim to an Iranian drone collision, prompting speculation around the circumstances precipitating the latest military actions.
Greene’s critiques are significant considering her previous unwavering support of Trump, which shifted after disagreements over the release of the Jeffrey Epstein files. Trump has also critiqued Greene, labeling her as ‘wacky.’
Greene referenced a past interview Trump gave to ABC’s Kristen Welker, where he was questioned about changing his stance after promising no new wars. In his response, Trump stated, ‘First of all, I didn’t guarantee no war, why would I have built the strongest military in the world.’ Greene highlighted that the president had promised in his 2024 campaign to cease foreign wars, stating, ‘This is something the president has promised for many years; he’s on video, he’s on record, he can’t change any of his statements. He said no more foreign wars, so it shouldn’t even be happening.’ Greene emphasized the ongoing strikes between Lebanon and Israel as evidence contradicting Trump’s former claims.
Responding to Trump’s remarks to Welker, Greene asserted, ‘I don’t think the president’s comms team is doing him any favors.’ She noted that various videos exist of Trump on earlier campaign trails, reiterating promises to end wars and bring ‘world peace.’ Greene criticized Trump’s team for failing to remind him of his statements, suggesting these oversights ‘make him look like a fool.’
With the retaliatory strikes on Wednesday, the contrast between Trump’s prior anti-war stance and the unfolding military confrontations has emerged as a contentious issue within his political support base. Greene remarked on the ubiquity of past videos circulating online, which do not forgive changes in position.
New Strikes Against Iran
In posts on X, U.S. Central Command indicated on Wednesday that U.S. forces executed additional self-defense strikes against several targets in Iran starting at around 5:15 p.m. ET, as part of ongoing responses to what they termed ‘unwarranted and continued aggression.’
A subsequent post from CENTCOM denied claims by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps regarding the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, stating, ‘Commercial ships are continuing to transit in and out of the Strait of Hormuz tonight.’
Fox News reporter Trey Yingst shared that during Trump’s time in the Situation Room on Wednesday, Iranian officials reached out to request an end to bombings. Yingst reported that Trump assured the officials that strikes would cease shortly.
