President Donald Trump recently signed an executive order aimed at increasing accountability among top federal bureaucrats. This initiative is part of a broader effort by the Trump administration that has spanned several years.
The executive order introduces a new category of federal employment. This category targets approximately 8,000 senior-level career employees. These employees are responsible for supervisory and policymaking duties within their agencies.
Initially, the administration projected this reclassification would impact around 50,000 federal workers. However, the final scope of the order is significantly narrower than anticipated.
Scott Kupor, the head of the Office of Personnel Management, discussed these developments at The Washington Post’s “Building America” summit on June 4. His insights shed light on the administration’s ongoing efforts to overhaul federal employment structures.
