Comedians Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon took humorous jabs at President Donald Trump on Tuesday. They targeted Trump’s recent $14 million renovation of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. This makeover was intended to give the historic site an ‘American flag blue’ look.
The renovation, however, faced unexpected challenges. Algal blooms turned the pool’s water green, complicating the initial goal. On Tuesday, National Park Service teams and contractors used hydrogen peroxide in efforts to fix the problem. This is part of a broader beautification project leading up to the 250th anniversary of the United States.
Late Night Comedians Weigh In
Late-night shows were quick to comment on the situation. On Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Kimmel shared, ‘The pool now looks Mexican flag green.’ He showed footage of the pool during the broadcast.
Kimmel explained, ‘Trump reportedly spent $14 million updating the reflecting pool on the National Mall. The aim was to repaint and resurface it in American flag blue. But not even a week after completion, the water has turned completely green.’
Meanwhile, Jimmy Fallon also joined in on the jokes. During his hosting of The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, he remarked about Trump’s completed $14 million project. He described it as an effort to make the water blue, but ‘due to algae growth, it’s now a bright green.’
Fallon humorously added, ‘Trump attempted to recreate an Avatar look, but ended up with Shrek instead.’
