The Supreme Court is entering the final stretch of its term, with plans to release over a dozen opinions in the next two weeks. These rulings will include significant decisions that may impact President Trump’s policies aimed at increasing presidential authority and reorganizing the federal bureaucracy.
Two key cases are drawing significant attention. The first will address whether President Trump has the authority to terminate birthright citizenship for U.S.-born children of undocumented immigrants. Another will decide whether Lisa D. Cook, a pivotal figure at the independent Federal Reserve, can be removed from her position.
Earlier in the year, Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. and two justices nominated by Mr. Trump during his first term joined with three Democratic appointees. They ruled against Mr. Trump by overturning his extensive tariffs on imports from major U.S. trading partners. This decision drew sharp criticism from Mr. Trump, who labeled the justices as “fools and lap dogs.”
Recently, the president has expressed concerns regarding the birthright citizenship case. In April, he attended oral arguments, marking the first time a sitting president did so. Following the session, Mr. Trump complained on social media about the justices’ questioning, calling it “nasty and one-sided.”
