Ancelotti Leads Brazil Amid World Cup Challenges

Legendary manager Carlo Ancelotti began his tenure with Brazil’s men’s national team in May 2025. At his hiring, ESPN’s Gabriele Marcotti noted the rarity of a foreign manager crossing continents to navigate the unique landscape of Brazilian football. Ancelotti emerged as the person capable of guiding Brazil to their sixth World Cup victory in 2026.

As Brazil enters the Round of 16 at the 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup, they rely heavily on Ancelotti’s expertise. The team faces significant challenges, including the recent loss of Raphinha, who suffered a hamstring injury against Haiti on June 19. Despite this setback, Brazil convincingly defeated Scotland 3-0 in their group stage finale. However, their match against Japan in the Round of 32 on June 30 proved more challenging.

Brazil secured a 2-1 win over Japan, but midfielder Lucas Paquetá left the game in the 45th minute due to a leg injury.
