Seaplane Makes Hard Landing in East River; Injuries Reported

A seaplane carrying multiple passengers made a hard landing on New York City’s East River, according to officials. The incident occurred on a Sunday at around noon.

The Fire Department of New York (FDNY) responded to reports of a plane in the water off the marina at East 23rd Street and the FDR Drive in Manhattan. FDNY units removed at least eight people from the seaplane. Two individuals were evaluated for minor injuries, while one refused medical attention, according to the New York Police Department (NYPD).

The seaplane had taken off from the Hamptons and was later seen upright and being towed back to the dock, as reported by FDNY officials. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced an investigation and stated that the pilot of a Kodiak 100 seaplane made the hard landing in the East River near Brooklyn, New York. The impact caused a wing strut to snap. A wing strut connects the airplane’s wing to the main body and provides support.

The FAA is expected to release a preliminary accident report later this week. This incident follows another seaplane crash into the East River just three weeks ago. On June 13, FDNY assisted a pilot and a passenger after their plane went down near Whitestone, Queens. No injuries were reported in the earlier incident.
