Mets’ AI Strategy Fails Despite Cheating Allegations

It’s one issue to perform poorly in sports. It’s another to resort to cheating and still not succeed. This seems to be the case with the New York Mets. They are among several MLB teams accused of exploiting in-dugout iPads to use AI in their game decisions, as reported by the New York Post. Despite these technological advantages, the Mets found themselves at the bottom of the standings.

The alleged cheating involved a custom tab that allowed access to unauthorized programs, now prohibited by MLB. Dan Martin from the New York Post highlighted this restriction in his report on Friday.

The duration and specifics of the Mets’ use of this loophole remain unclear. It is uncertain if the actions occurred under the management of Carlos Mendoza or interim manager Andy Green, or both.

It is evident that the team’s AI-assisted strategy was flawed. Several factors could have contributed: incorrect prompts entered, faulty AI logic, misapplication of AI advice, or potentially poor team roster. Regardless, the Mets struggled this season with a considerable gap between their expectations and reality.
