A 67-year-old man from The Villages in central Florida faces charges after a series of events involving a young woman he met online. Authorities arrested David Allen O’Brien on charges of aggravated assault after his interaction with a 21-year-old woman turned confrontational.
The arrest report explains that O’Brien contacted the woman through the dating app Tinder, stating he was searching for a ‘sugar baby’ arrangement. This type of relationship typically involves an older man financially supporting a younger woman. They planned to meet on July 21, and O’Brien agreed to provide the woman with $1,000 for the visit, in addition to dinner and shopping.
Upon her arrival, accompanied by three friends waiting in a car, O’Brien initially gave her $200 and later took her shopping for lingerie. The couple then had dinner where he provided another $600. However, the situation escalated when they returned to O’Brien’s home and the woman began to feel uneasy. She decided to leave, contacting her friends for a ride.
According to the report, O’Brien requested the money back, citing a breach of their arrangement. As the woman and her friends attempted to leave in their car, O’Brien allegedly pursued them in his Ford F-150 truck. The chase ended with O’Brien ramming their vehicle into a telephone pole.
During the incident, O’Brien reportedly pointed a semi-automatic Ruger at a 22-year-old male involved, threatening him. Despite the danger, the man managed to escape when O’Brien became distracted.
Police arrived shortly after, finding O’Brien still at the scene and in possession of his weapon. O’Brien claimed the car’s obscured tail lights indicated he had been ‘scammed.’
He now faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill and aggravated battery. Authorities transferred him to Sumter County Jail without further incident. His arraignment is scheduled for August 14. Fox News Digital reached out to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office for more information.
