Italian Prime Minister Accuses Pro-Russian Hackers of Leaking Foreign Minister’s Data

By November 8, 2026, Italy’s Prime Minister accused pro-Russian hackers of leaking the foreign minister’s data onto the dark web. The Italian Foreign Minister, Antonio Tajani, revealed on Saturday that intimidation tactics targeted him, resulting in his personal data leak. Tajani linked this breach to his support for Ukraine, although he did not identify the perpetrators.

In a statement online, Tajani referred to these hackers as ‘cybercriminals’ responsible for posting his data on the dark web. This part of the internet requires specialized software and is often associated with illicit activities.

The event coincided with a handshake between Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky and Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni during a meeting at Palazzo Chigi in Rome on April 15, 2026.

Separately, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni condemned ‘pro-Russian hackers’ for the breach. She expressed ‘full solidarity’ with Minister Tajani, condemning the unauthorized dissemination of personal data.

The sale of confidential information about institutional representatives is a cause of serious concern and must be tackled with the utmost determination, Meloni stated.

Tajani commented that these leaks have persisted, resulting in threats and intimidation. His family members have also become targets, and the hackers continue searching for more data.

Our position on Ukraine is the political reason I have been targeted, Tajani said. He emphasized that supporting a sovereign state’s freedom makes such entities wary.

Unfazed by the incident, he pledged continued support for Italy’s allies. I will continue working to defend my ministry and Italy, the minister stated. He aims to strengthen ties with allies to bolster mutual protection.
