Fatal School Shooting in Thailand’s Nonthaburi Province

Authorities in Thailand responded to a tragic shooting incident at a high school in Nonthaburi province, located northwest of Bangkok, on Friday, August 7, 2026. Several deaths and injuries were reported following the incident. The Royal Thai Police, represented by spokesperson Trairong Piwpan, confirmed the event occurred at the Debsirin Nonthaburi School.

The shooter, identified as a student, remained inside the school premises during the incident. Arsit Sampantharat, the permanent secretary for the Interior Ministry, relayed this information to news station PPTV. However, specific details regarding the number of casualties or injured have not been disclosed by officials.

Images captured approximately an hour after the shooting depicted individuals outside the school consoling one another while police and first responders were active inside the building. Though the building appeared to have been secured, the authorities did not confirm the shooter’s status at that time.

Witnesses recounted that students sought shelter inside a classroom, hearing gunfire from another building. Eventually, police arrived, knocking on doors to guide students safely out of the building.

This incident is part of a troubling pattern of youth-involved shootings in the country. In February, a 17-year-old managed to steal a firearm from police and launched an attack on a public high school in southern Thailand. This two-hour hostage situation resulted in the death of one individual and injuries to two others. Additionally, in 2023, another young shooter, a 14-year-old boy, carried out a shooting in a major Bangkok shopping mall.
