Heading into the trade deadline, the Angels had a 43-69 record. The front office opted for a selling strategy, transforming what should have been a relaxing golf day into a chaotic experience.
Trout National, a private club designed by Tiger Woods, is nestled in Trout’s hometown, Vineland, New Jersey. With a $100 million budget, the club maintains an exclusive atmosphere. Few golfers are granted access, so Trout’s teammates anticipated the experience eagerly.
Despite the promising start, the day quickly unraveled for four players. According to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal, pitchers Ryan Zeferjahn and Brent Suter, and outfielder Jo Adell faced mid-round trades.
Brent Suter, notably in his first season with the Angels, prioritized finishing his golf round upon hearing the news. He humorously asked Rosenthal, “Can I finish the round? Can I golf?”
Reliever Kirby Yates completed his entire game without disruption but later discovered he was sent to the Pittsburgh Pirates while en route from the course.
