Thrilling Matches and Emotional Tributes at GCW Homecoming Night 1

In Atlantic City, a memorable night unfolded at Game Changer Wrestling’s Homecoming Night 1, held at the Showboat Resort. Joseph Sawyer, previously known as Joe Gacy in WWE, returned to GCW and secured a victory over Atticus Cogar. This win granted him the GCW World Championship.

What a f—ing Homecoming, Sawyer declared to the cheering crowd, emphasizing the significance of his return.

Sawyer’s last appearance in GCW was in 2020, where he fought under the name Psycho Joe. In this match, Sawyer and Cogar engaged in a fierce contest marked by brutal tactics, like chair shots, and attempts to slam Cogar through a makeshift door in the ring corner.

The evening also acknowledged the late Bray Wyatt, a former WWE icon who passed away unexpectedly in August 2023. Cogar’s entrance music served as a tribute, and he donned a jacket and mask in Wyatt’s honor.

Sawyer concluded the match by utilizing a Sister Abigail DDT on Cogar. The audience responded with fervor, their enthusiasm reflected in the banging on the ring apron as Sawyer celebrated his win.

The night’s violence extended beyond Sawyer’s match. Otis Cogar successfully defended his GCW Ultraviolent Championship against Anakin Murphy. Murphy embraced his New Jersey roots, sporting attire inspired by My Chemical Romance’s Gerard Way.

Despite Murphy’s fierce resistance, including wielding a fan’s Buffalo Bills helmet, Cogar prevailed. Murphy urged Cogar to finish him before enduring a harsh chair shot.

Elsewhere, Vipress and Christian Napier battled in a Chola Chain Match. The competitors were linked by a chain tied to their wrists. Napier found himself on the losing side after Vipress struck with light tubes and tied him up in the ropes. She concluded by wrapping the chain around his face, forcing him to tap out.

Following her victory, Vipress challenged Cogar for the GCW Ultraviolent Championship.

One of the night’s more alarming moments came from a six-man deathmatch featuring Nick Gage, Nino Extremo, and Sicko The Clown against Conor Claxton, Dr. Redacted, and Jimmy Lloyd. Claxton attempted a risky maneuver from a scaffold, leading to a dramatic sequence where Sicko The Clown delivered a Spanish fly, leading to Claxton’s hospital visit. He was reported to be in stable condition afterward.

KJ Orso and Sam Stackhouse emerged victorious over Alec Price and Jordan Oliver, claiming the GCW Tag Team Championship. Another match saw Bobby Flaco, Hunter Drake, Jay Lucas, and Terry Yaki triumph over Leedz Lewis, Ryan O’Neill, Sal Mistretta, and Tarzan Duran in an eight-man tag match.

In addition, Joey Janela avoided retirement by defeating Marko Stunt, with Ryan O’Neill’s assistance. The duo of Bear Bronson and Gabby Forza defeated Charles Mason and Slade.
