Questions Arise Over Working-Class Claims of NYC Democratic Socialists Co-Chair

Recent scrutiny surrounds Gustavo Gordillo, co-chair of the New York City Democratic Socialists of America. Discrepancies in his portrayal of working-class credentials have emerged, conflicting with public records.

Gordillo attributes his support for socialism partly to his parents’ immigrant success story. He claims they arrived in the U.S. with nothing, initially working in fast food and house cleaning.

However, a 2021 obituary challenges this narrative, suggesting Gordillo’s paternal grandfather immigrated from Peru in 1958 to practice medicine. As a successful psychiatrist in Ohio, he became president of the Ohio Psychiatric Association. This casts doubt on Gordillo’s assertion that his parents grew up in poverty.

Despite Gordillo’s assertion of his father’s initial job at Wendy’s and his mother’s work as a house cleaner, further discrepancies have surfaced. Recently, Gordillo was found living in a $1.4 million townhouse owned by his father, not renting a modest apartment in Crown Heights as claimed.

NYC councilwoman Vickie Paladino criticized the situation on social media, calling it an instance of greed. The townhouse was converted from a two-family dwelling to a luxury single-family home for Gordillo, contradicting DSA values.

Gordillo’s identity as a ‘union electrician’ is also questioned. He hasn’t been a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers since March after dismissal from an apprenticeship program due to prolonged absences. Despite this, he continues to identify as a ‘union electrician’ online.

Gordillo and the NYC Democratic Socialists of America did not respond to requests from Fox News Digital for comment.
