A man in Arizona, Jacob Aaron Hicks, 46, was arrested after allegedly threatening to bomb the White House and other locations in Washington, D.C., according to federal officials. Hicks, from Tucson, faced charges of making an interstate threat to injure, as announced by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona.

The allegations stem from a criminal complaint indicating that Hicks emailed a Tucson television station on September 23. He claimed there would be an ‘imminent bomb strike’ targeting the White House and other sites in Washington, D.C. The television station promptly reported the threat to law enforcement, which triggered an investigation.

Authorities identified Hicks as the sender of the threatening email. U.S. Attorney Timothy Courchaine emphasized the seriousness of threats like these. ‘I am grateful to our local news station for reporting this threat to law enforcement and to the FBI for their swift and professional response,’ Courchaine stated.

Further investigations revealed additional email drafts linked to Hicks. These drafts were also dated September 23 and directed at other news outlets, containing similar threats concerning the White House and other locations in Washington, D.C.

The investigation is led by the FBI, with support from the U.S. Secret Service. Rebecca Day, FBI Phoenix Special Agent in Charge, acknowledged the role of the news station in reporting the threat. ‘We appreciate the community partner who reported the threat to law enforcement. Cooperation and partnership are essential to protecting the American people,’ Day noted.

Hicks appeared in federal court following his arrest. This case underscores the importance of community vigilance and collaboration with authorities to ensure public safety.
