February 4, 2026: The search for Nancy Guthrie, mother of NBC “Today” co-host Savannah Guthrie, continues to emotionally impact many as the Tucson, Arizona community held a candlelight vigil. The event, organized to pray for her safe return, highlighted the deep respect the community holds for the Guthrie family.
Sally Shamrell, an actress and former KVOA reporter, emphasized the family’s positive impact on Tucson over the decades. “Having known them for over 30 years, I can attest to their tremendous contributions to our community,” Shamrell shared with CBS News.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department is investigating 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance as a potential crime. As of the latest update, no suspects or persons of interest have been identified. She had last been seen at her home on Saturday evening but was reported missing after failing to attend church the following morning.
Thank you for lifting your prayers with ours for our beloved mom, our dearest Nancy, a woman of deep conviction, a good and faithful servant. Raise your prayers with us and believe with us that she will be lifted by them in this very moment.
This heartfelt message was posted by Savannah Guthrie, who, along with her siblings Camron and Annie, shared a video plea for their mother’s return. The family remains hopeful, finding comfort in community support.
Sally Shamrell played a key role in organizing the vigil at St. Philip’s in the Hills Episcopal Church, inspired by Savannah’s call for prayers. She reached out to former colleagues at KVOA to aid in the vigil’s planning. “Their immediate willingness to help, regardless of time that has passed, truly shows the strong bonds within our community,” Shamrell noted.
The vigil, streamed live on the church’s website, saw many community members attending, lighting candles, and placing them at the altar. The collective hope is for Nancy Guthrie’s safe return.
Authorities suspect abduction due to signs of forced entry at Nancy’s residence in Catalina Foothills. A small amount of blood found at the scene is undergoing testing. Unconfirmed reports suggest a ransom note might have been sent to an Arizona news station, although the legitimacy remains unclear, according to Sheriff Chris Nanos.
With the heartbreaking situation unfolding, anyone with information about Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance is strongly encouraged to reach out to the Pima County Sheriff’s tip line at 520-351-4900.
