FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — The Chicago Fire secured a playoff spot on Saturday night, achieving back-to-back postseason appearances for the first time since their three-year run from 2007 to 2009. Despite a 1-0 loss to the New England Revolution, the team benefited from Orlando City’s 4-1 victory over D.C. United later that evening.
The Fire currently hold a 14-10-6 record, totaling 48 points, and are positioned fourth in the Eastern Conference with four regular-season games to play. Last year, the team made the playoffs for the first time since 2017, winning their first postseason match since 2009 by defeating Orlando City 3-1 in the Eastern Conference wild-card round.
In the match against the Revolution, Matt Polster scored in the first half after receiving assists from Carles Gil and Peyton Miller in the 26th minute. His goal marked the second of his season, providing the Revolution (16-10-4) with a lead they maintained. Goalkeeper Matt Turner recorded his sixth clean sheet in 30 starts this season, saving six shots on goal. Last year, he achieved two shutouts in his first 112 starts with the club.
Chicago Fire goalkeeper Chris Brady made three saves against the Revolution. The Fire, experiencing their second straight loss, previously enjoyed a three-match winning streak. Their upcoming game is scheduled for Saturday against Atlanta United.
