Protests Erupt Against NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani

4 weeks ago 0

On a recent evening in New York City, hundreds gathered near Gracie Mansion on the Upper East Side. They waved Israeli and American flags, rallying against Democratic Mayor Zohran Mamdani. Organized by the group #EndJewHatred, the protest aimed to challenge the mayor’s leadership and address concerns of antisemitism.

Throughout the rally, a variety of speakers took the stage, among them former ‘Big Time Rush’ star James Maslow, artist Scott LoBaido, and Lawfare Project founder Brooke Goldstein. Several pro-Israel activists were also present. Chants of ‘remove Mamdani’ and ‘USA, USA’ echoed between speeches, along with renditions of ‘The Star-Spangled Banner.’

Ari Ackerman, an entrepreneur and advocate for Israel, spoke out against the mayor. ‘This is not the New York City I knew and loved,’ he said, pointing toward Gracie Mansion. He criticized the current administration, suggesting it has changed the city’s character.

Critics of Mamdani have focused on his stance regarding Israel. Concerns about his refusal to condemn the phrase ‘globalize the intifada’ and his connections to figures like Hasan Piker and Mahmoud Khalil have stirred controversy. Following the Hamas attacks in 2023, antisemitic incidents have reportedly increased in New York City. Jewish New Yorkers have expressed feeling unsafe since Mamdani took office in January.

Several speakers at the protest highlighted issues they saw in Mamdani’s approach to governing. Rabbi Yaakov Menken pointed to a perceived failure to address antisemitism, noting that Mamdani removed the definition of antisemitism soon after assuming office. Influencer Lizzy Savetsky further criticized the mayor, which prompted boos from the crowd.

While the rally largely dealt with antisemitism, it also addressed broader concerns about American values and civil rights. Goldstein challenged the audience to consider if the country still believes in the rule of law and equal protection.

Abraham Hamra, a Syrian Jew who fled his home as a child, compared Mamdani’s actions to threats broader than those to the Jewish community. He urged Americans to stand against radical ideologies.

Adding to the controversy, Mamdani announced he would skip the upcoming Israel Day Parade, a departure from tradition. Anila Ali, set to lead the first Muslim delegation in the parade, criticized the mayor for employing divisive tactics. Her statement coincided with Eid al-Adha, underscoring her call for unity among faiths.

As protesters waved their flags, they condemned Mamdani’s perceived selective response to antisemitic symbols. Fox News Digital attempted to contact Mamdani’s office for comment without success. The rally illustrated a bubbling tension within New York City, highlighting issues of public safety, antisemitism, and leadership.
