Aryna Sabalenka celebrated an intense victory against Linda Noskova, keeping her dream alive for a third consecutive U.S. Open title. In a gripping quarterfinal match at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York, Sabalenka won 7-6 (1), 3-6, 7-6 (10-7) on Tuesday.
The match ended dramatically with a second-serve ace, allowing Sabalenka to fend off the Wimbledon champion and secure her spot in the semifinals. This marks the sixth year in a row that Sabalenka has reached the semifinals at Flushing Meadows.
Maintaining her No. 1 ranking required a victory, which she achieved magnificently. Next, Sabalenka is set to face either No. 3 seed Jessica Pegula or No. 26 seed Emma Navarro in the semifinal round on Thursday.
Linda Noskova, ranked No. 6, made a significant effort after her victory at the All England Club. She was close to being the first woman since Serena Williams in 2016 to transition from a grass court title to the final stages on New York’s hardcourts.
