Callaway Golf issued a second statement on the controversy surrounding its advertisement with Good Good. The company admitted to approving the now-deleted video, which depicted a man shoving a woman to the ground.
Good Good, a popular YouTube golf channel with over 2 million subscribers, collaborated with Callaway for a special edition driver. In the ad, Good Good co-founder Garrett Clark shoved member Alexis Miestowski to the ground as she reached for the driver from a golf bag. Clark stood over her, saying, Do not touch my new driver.
After removing the video from its social media, Good Good apologized, stating that the actions in the ad did not align with the brand’s values. Callaway followed with its own statement, expressing disappointment and gratitude to Good Good for addressing the issue. The company emphasized its commitment to a more inclusive golf environment.
As calls for accountability persisted, Callaway CEO Chip Brewer released a statement early Tuesday admitting that the company had approved the video. Brewer stated, Last week, Good Good Golf and Callaway posted a video to promote a co-branded driver. While the video was produced by Good Good, it was approved by Callaway prior to posting. That approval should never have happened. Mistakes were made, and we are taking the matter very seriously.
He assured the public that changes to their approval processes are underway and reiterated Callaway’s stance against discrimination and violence. The CEO promised to learn from the incident and improve. Brewer highlighted Callaway’s past contributions toward diversity and inclusion within golf.
OutKick reached out to Good Good for additional comments, and updates will be provided if a response is received.
The PGA Tour also commented on the advertisement, asserting golf’s role in creating a welcoming environment. It did not condone violence and clarified that the video did not represent its values.
This interaction between Callaway, Good Good, and the PGA Tour comes ahead of the first Good Good Championship sponsored by the Tour in November in Austin, Texas.
