After experiencing significant rainfall over the weekend, Chicago residents can expect light rain and cloudy skies in the coming days, according to weather officials.
Senior meteorologist Gino Izzi from the National Weather Service stated that Monday’s weather would likely be ‘more drizzly, if anything.’ The weekend’s rain marked a notable event, with O’Hare International Airport recording the highest two-day September rainfall since 2019. Saturday saw 0.86 inches of rain, while Sunday had 1.21 inches.
Izzi mentioned that Tuesday would begin with cloudy conditions but is expected to gradually clear up during the day. This contrasted sharply with Sunday’s heavy rain, which canceled an open-water swim in the Chicago River. The rainfall also pushed the McCook Reservoir in the southwest suburbs to 95% capacity.
The storms over the weekend also affected events like Riot Fest. The festival had to close early on Saturday night and reopened on Sunday afternoon, with attendees navigating mud at Douglass Park while wearing ponchos.
Weather conditions on Monday morning were overcast, with Chicago’s Midway airport recording temperatures of 59 degrees, and O’Hare airport reporting 62 degrees.
