The U.S. Coast Guard seized an 8-foot dinghy believed to have been involved in the disappearance of Michigan resident Lynette Hooker. The incident occurred in the Bahamas in early April. Investigators took the dinghy back to a Coast Guard cutter as part of ongoing investigations. CBS News documented this event.
Lynette Hooker vanished during a nighttime ride with her husband, Brian Hooker. He reported her missing on April 5. Brian explained that his wife fell off the dinghy due to turbulent waters. He claimed she was carried away with the dinghy’s keys, leaving him to paddle to shore unaided.
During the investigation, a Coast Guard investigator examined the dinghy using a life jacket, and a cadaver dog assisted in the search. These efforts aim to clarify the circumstances leading to Lynette’s disappearance.
Bahamian authorities initially detained Brian Hooker for questioning, but he was released after five days. He has returned to the U.S. and has not faced any charges. He maintains his innocence regarding the incident.
Discrepancies arose due to GPS data collected from an electronic device. This data challenges Brian’s statement about that night’s events, prompting fresh search efforts in the Bahamas. Prior to seizing the dinghy, the Coast Guard had already confiscated the couple’s sailboat used during their trip.
