Elon Musk’s Super PAC Invests Big in Republican Candidates

Elon Musk’s super PAC disclosed spending over $800,000 last month supporting Republican Senate and House candidates in key races. Most of the spending occurred in Texas and Maine, where the GOP is defending Senate seats.

America PAC’s August spending is likely the start of a significant campaign effort by Musk, known globally as the wealthiest individual. In 2024, Musk contributed hundreds of millions to support President Trump and other Republican candidates. According to The New York Times, Musk’s super PAC plans to invest more than $100 million to help Republicans in the November elections.

The latest financial disclosure revealed expenditures for independent August activities, targeting almost all competitive Senate contests: Texas ($247,595), Maine ($170,224.29), Ohio ($105,675), New Hampshire ($91,458.50), Iowa ($54,600), Michigan ($25,605), and Alaska ($17,235).

Additionally, GOP candidates in competitive House districts in Virginia, New York, Pennsylvania, Florida, and Wisconsin benefited from America PAC’s spending.

House Speaker Mike Johnson confirmed meeting with Musk during a Texas campaign tour. Several House districts there are pivotal, besides a competitive Senate race between Republican Ken Paxton and Democrat James Talarico. Johnson did not disclose if they discussed election spending.

“He’s made public a lot of what he’s doing. I’m going to talk about our conversation on that point, but we’re gonna win the midterms,” he said.

The spending report specified that all funds went to “PRINTING,” mostly for mail advertisements. Chris Young, a GOP agent and former government employee under Musk, manages America PAC’s spending.

Alongside mail campaigns, America PAC invested over $207,000 in digital ads in Texas, Michigan, New Hampshire, and Maine, as indicated by AdImpact and Facebook ad library data. These ads mostly serve as reminders to vote, with some carrying messages like one concerning New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani:

You couldn’t vote in his election, and socialism declared victory over America’s biggest city. If you don’t vote in November, socialism could declare victory over America.

In 2024, America PAC spent over $239 million supporting Republican candidates, with Musk being the largest donor of the cycle across parties, according to the Federal Election Commission.

When asked last year if such spending would continue, Musk responded: I think in terms of political spending, I’m going to do a lot less in the future. I think I’ve done enough, he added.
