Former ABC News Correspondent Admits Network’s Liberal Bias

1 hour ago 0

Terry Moran, a former ABC News correspondent, acknowledged that the network leaned liberal and struggled to understand supporters of President Donald Trump due to a lack of political viewpoint diversity in its newsroom. Appearing on “The Fifth Column” podcast, Moran admitted to host Michael C. Moynihan that ABC News is indeed a liberal institution.

Yes. But I think, like a lot of mainstream media, it’s because of lack of viewpoint diversity, Moran explained. He highlighted that during Trump’s coverage, the absence of diverse perspectives became a problem, with nobody at the network having supported Trump.

Moran attempted to address this issue by sending internal emails advocating for fair coverage of Trump. His efforts received some support from colleagues, including a few engineers and producers, who appreciated his stance.

Following his departure, a staffer revealed to Fox News Digital that Moran occasionally clashed with his liberal colleagues. The staffer expressed sadness over the situation, stating that while Moran was a good person and long-term colleague, his social media post left the network with no choice.

ABC News decided not to renew Moran’s contract after he violated the network’s policies by posting a comment describing Trump and White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller as “world-class haters.” This post was later deleted. ABC emphasized its commitment to impartial reporting and stated that Moran’s actions fell short of the high standards of objectivity, fairness, and professionalism the network requires.

The network acted quickly to prevent the controversy from affecting its viewer base, given the growing public distrust of legacy media. The staffer’s direct language underscored the seriousness with which ABC addressed the issue.

In an interview after his departure, Moran noted the challenges ABC faced due to the lack of Trump supporters among its staff. He highlighted the distinction between fairness and objectivity, stating that his work was exceptionally fair, even if absolute objectivity in journalism does not exist.

Prior to leaving the network, Moran conducted an intense Oval Office interview with Trump during the president’s first 100 days back in office. Trump expressed distrust towards Moran, accusing him of asking “fake questions.”

Fox News Digital reached out to ABC for comments but did not receive an immediate response.
