Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was asked about her stance on Maine Democratic Senate candidate Graham Platner. During an event at 92NY, Clinton was non-committal in her support, stating, “I feel about him the way I feel about any candidate. I want to see what kind of candidate he actually turns out to be.”
Clinton seemed to minimize the impact of Platner’s recent controversies, referring to them as “bumps on the road” for his character. When pressed by New Yorker editor David Remnick, she acknowledged these issues as bumps related to his past behavior and statements.
The bumps on the road that he has experienced and some of the things he has said…Clinton commented, adding that defeating incumbent Maine Senator Susan Collins would be challenging. “It’s going to be a tough election,” she said.
Clinton joked about her own voting influence, saying, “I’m not a Mainer. I’m a New Yorker,” when asked who she would support in the election.
The conversation then shifted to the broader importance of the Democratic Party regaining control of the House of Representatives in 2026. Fox News Digital reached out to Platner’s campaign for comment.
Graham Platner’s campaign has been marred by several scandals, including explicit messages, offensive social media posts, a tattoo with Nazi associations, and internal campaign issues. Recently, a New York Times report detailed new allegations involving violent incidents and troubling behavior with former girlfriends.
Despite these issues, some Democratic politicians continue to support Platner’s campaign, while others have not openly condemned him.
