Federal agents have fired shots at least 21 times, often targeting individuals in vehicles, during President Trump’s deportation initiative. These confrontations led to five deaths, including three U.S. citizens.
A recent incident occurred in Houston, where federal immigration officer shot and killed a Mexican man, Lorenzo Salgado Araujo. The shooting happened at approximately 6:50 a.m., during an attempt to arrest Mr. Araujo.
According to the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, the driver “weaponized his vehicle” aiming to hit the agent, leading the officer to fire in self-defense. However, federal officers often describe incidents using similar terms, and initial claims of assault or injury frequently unravel during court proceedings.
There is currently no evidence supporting the federal officials’ account of Mr. Araujo’s shooting. Following gunshot injury to his abdomen, Mr. Araujo succumbed to his wounds at the hospital, as confirmed by Rustin Rawlings from the Houston Fire Department.
