Inside the High-Stakes Role of White House Press Secretary

1 hour ago 0

Kayleigh McEnany recently hosted a discussion focused on the challenging role of serving as the White House press secretary. The conversation included insights from Chad Gilmartin, Harrison Fields, and Jalen Drummond. President Donald Trump mentioned he is in no hurry to name a new press secretary.

The panel revealed details about managing press briefings, highlighting the pressures involved. In an interesting development, Trump suggested UFC CEO Dana White for the position, proposing a team comprising mixed martial arts stars to protect his administration from political adversaries. The proposal appeared on Trump’s Truth Social account along with a list of fighters and a collage of images.

Although there has been no confirmation that Dana White accepted the offer, nor is it clear if Trump’s proposal was made in earnest. Trump commented, ‘We need these people to defend us against the Lunatic Left.’ The suggested team included UFC fighters Islam Makhachev, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Justin Gaethje, Daniel Cormier, Amanda Nunes, and an apparent reference to Kayla Harrison, a two-time Olympic judo gold medalist and UFC competitor.

In another lighthearted gesture, Trump added, ‘Dana, please take the job!’ Both Trump and Dana White were seen together during the UFC Freedom 250 event held at the White House on June 14, 2026.

This post comes amid recent changes within the White House. The most recent press secretary, Katie Zacharia, resigned a short while after starting. She was announced as the successor to Karoline Leavitt on October 9 and started her role on October 12. Her departure was confirmed shortly after her introduction.

Stephen Miller has also been appointed to succeed Susie Wiles as chief of staff, marking another shift in Trump’s administration. While Trump publicly announced Miller’s appointment, the offer extended to Dana White remains unresolved.

Dana White has maintained a long-standing relationship with Trump, partially due to Trump’s support of the UFC’s early growth efforts. White led UFC events as early as 2001 in Atlantic City under Trump’s encouragement and emerged as a key supporter during Trump’s presidential campaigns.

Their association continued with Dana White introducing Trump at the 2024 Republican National Convention in Milwaukee and praising his durability. The June 2026 event at the White House saw official photographs of Trump and White attending together, reflecting their enduring friendship.

Despite this close connection, Dana White previously expressed no interest in pursuing a political career. In a 2024 interview with Sports Business Journal, he stated he had no political aspirations. His sentiment predates Trump’s latest proposal by two years.

Fox News Digital reporter Jackson Thompson, who covers significant political and cultural issues within sports, contributed to this report. Thompson’s work has been cited in various significant media outlets.
