Jalen Hurts on Injured Reserve Due to Blood Clot

59 minutes ago 0

The Philadelphia Eagles placed quarterback Jalen Hurts on injured reserve following his diagnosis with a superficial blood clot. This will sideline him for at least four games.

On Thursday, the Eagles shared details about Hurts’ condition and his expected absence. Hurts had been undergoing treatment for about a week and traveled to and from London with the condition. He participated fully in the London game against the Jacksonville Jaguars and Wednesday’s practice before the announcement of his absence for Sunday’s game.

On October 8, Hurts sought treatment for a calf injury, which he reported was due to being cleated during the game against the Los Angeles Rams on October 4. Despite his full participation in practice on Wednesday and Thursday, a follow-up ultrasound on Saturday revealed a superficial blood clot.

The medical staff determined that continued activity and mobility were safe, allowing Hurts to play the game. They scheduled another ultrasound within 72 hours following the game and the team’s return to Philadelphia.

After Sunday’s game, Hurts practiced normally on Monday and Tuesday and participated fully on Wednesday. However, a subsequent ultrasound that night showed clot movement. Consequently, Hurts will not play against the Carolina Panthers as his treatment plan is decided. Ensuring his health and safety remains the team’s top priority.

Hurts will miss games against the Panthers and his NFC East rivals but can return in Week 11 against the Pittsburgh Steelers due to a Week 10 bye.

Blood clots pose severe risks, potentially blocking blood flow to major organs, causing embolisms, strokes, or heart attacks. Immediate treatment is crucial to prevent such outcomes.

Backup quarterback Tanner McKee, a third-year player, will start in Hurts’ absence. McKee has a record of one win and one loss in his two starts.
