Jim Thornton, the announcer for ‘Wheel of Fortune’, has been suspended. Sony Pictures Television Studios confirmed the suspension in a statement. They are investigating allegations against Thornton related to an incident on an American Airlines flight.
Thornton, who joined ‘Wheel of Fortune’ in 2011, is facing allegations that originated from a May flight, according to TMZ. A passenger complaint led to law enforcement meeting the plane at Los Angeles International Airport. However, Thornton was not detained.
A spokesperson for American Airlines told TMZ that concerns were reported on Flight 1276, prompting law enforcement involvement upon arrival. Fox News Digital awaits further comment from the airline.
Thornton stepped in as the announcer after Charlie O’Donnell’s passing in 2010. His career includes work on ‘The Price is Right’, ‘Jeopardy!’, and other voice roles in shows like ‘Celebrity Death Match’ and ‘The Cleveland Show’. He has been with KNX 1070 Newsradio since 1985.
Throughout his career, Thornton has received awards like the Edward R. Murrow award and an Emmy. Beyond this, his involvement in ‘Celebrity Wheel of Fortune’ continues, with Ryan Seacrest recently hosting the show.
