Kansas City Royals’ Unfortunate Inning Leads to Mets’ Early Lead

The Kansas City Royals turned a routine ground ball into a chaotic mess on Tuesday night against the New York Mets. This resulted in one of the strangest scoring sequences of the MLB season.

With runners on first and second, Mets outfielder Carson Benge hit a slow chopper toward the mound. Moments later, he was jogging across home plate after the Royals made three errors on a single play. These errors gave the Mets an early three-run advantage.

First Error: Royals pitcher Seth Lugo fielded the ball but made an off-balance throw to first base. The throw went wide of first baseman Jac Caglianone, allowing Benge to reach first safely.

Second Error: As Benge advanced to third, Caglianone attempted to throw him out. His throw missed the mark and ended up in foul territory.

Third Error: While heading home, Benge benefitted from a misplaced relay throw by third baseman Nick Loftin. This mistake let him complete his run around the bases.

The Royals committed these three errors in quick succession, handing the Mets three unearned runs before getting the third out of the inning.

The Mets secured a 3-0 lead before Kansas City even had a chance to bat. Despite the setback, the Royals managed to mount a comeback, tying the game at 9-9 by the fifth inning.

Mets fans observed this incident with mixed emotions, recognizing the fortune it brought their side early in the game.
