Latest Update on California Elections Featuring Candidates Hilton and Becerra

3 weeks ago 0

The latest numbers from the California governor’s race show Republican Steve Hilton in the lead with 27%. Democrat Xavier Becerra follows closely with 26%, and Tom Steyer is at 20%. Los Angeles County, with an estimated 688,000 votes left uncounted, released updates on Thursday and plans another release on Friday. The top two candidates will proceed to the November election.

While Hilton and Becerra maintain the top positions, the race remains unpredictable, and the Associated Press has not yet declared a winner.

Los Angeles Mayor’s Race

In the Los Angeles mayoral race, incumbent Karen Bass secured a spot on the November ballot. The opponent remains undecided as vote counting continues. With 62% of the vote counted, Spencer Pratt and City Councilmember Nithya Raman are in second and third places, respectively. Pratt claimed victory, but the Associated Press has not confirmed the result.

Congressional Races in Orange County

In Orange County, the congressional races for the 42nd, 45th, and 47th districts become increasingly clear as votes are counted. Current developments indicate varied progress for candidates in these key areas.

Republican gubernatorial candidate Steve Hilton referenced potential electoral fraud, saying the campaign is monitoring for signs of it. Former President Trump alleged without evidence that Democrats engaged in electoral manipulation in the California primaries, using social media to claim a federal investigation was in progress. The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Los Angeles has not commented on these claims.

Shasta County Election Changes

In Shasta County, Measure B, set to redefine local voting processes with requirements like hand-counting ballots and in-person voting on a single day, appears to have strong support. Opponents expect legal action due to the measure’s conflicts with current state and federal election laws.

Elsewhere, Monterey Park residents voted to ban data centers, marking a national first in local decision-making against such developments.

Statewide Races

In statewide races, key developments include Sonja Shaw leading in the primary for California’s superintendent of public instruction. Shaw, aligned with Trump, leads Democrat Richard Barrera. As races remain unresolved, the Associated Press keeps track of votes where no candidate holds a decisive lead.

With more than 700,000 ballots to process in Los Angeles County, election officials are working to complete the count.

California Attorney General Rob Bonta, who focuses on challenging Trump-era policies, advances to November’s election, according to the Associated Press.
