Legislators to Focus on Redistricting in Potential Special Session

In light of a possible special session, legislators are expected to concentrate primarily on the issue of redistricting. Recent discussions underscored the importance of addressing redistricting efficiently and fairly.

During the last legislative session, concerns emerged over the U.S. Supreme Court’s anticipated changes to the Voting Rights Act. These changes could weaken voter protections, particularly in states with histories of voter suppression affecting Black citizens.

Despite these warnings, the Maryland Senate declined to take up House proposals aimed at facilitating congressional redistricting reforms. As the potential special session looms, the focus remains on ensuring that the upcoming redistricting process is both transparent and equitable for all citizens.
