LIV Golf has informed numerous employees that their positions will be terminated starting the first week of September. This follows the announcement by the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) to cease funding after the 2026 season. The LIV Golf 2026 season concluded on August 23 in Indianapolis. However, the season ended earlier than planned due to the cancellation of the Team Championship in Michigan.

In a statement, LIV Golf announced, “The funding commitment announced by PIF earlier this year will reach its conclusion. As a result, we are scaling back operations as we transition to the next chapter of LIV Golf and work toward making LIV 2.0 a reality.” The organization is grateful for the contributions of its employees and is committed to supporting them during this transition.

The LIV leadership expressed optimism about continuing the league in 2027 with a new version called ‘LIV 2.0.’ There is hope that many of the employees being laid off might be rehired. LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil shared that a new investor has been secured with a term sheet signed, although details remain undisclosed.

LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil stated, “LIV Golf has an agreement in place with a lead investor, signed by the investor and approved by the Board, to anchor the transaction and play a key role in supporting the path forward for the League’s next era, driven by and for the players.” The future ‘LIV 2.0’ aims to have players holding a majority of equity.

The proposed schedule for the 2027 LIV season includes 10 events, with five hosted in the United States and five internationally.
