Caitlin Clark added 26 points with nine assists, including two key free throws after Atlanta closed in on Indiana’s lead at 93-91.
Mitchell tied the game at 81-81 with a 3-pointer, while Atlanta missed three shots in their final possession in regulation time.
Sophie Cunningham, celebrating her 30th birthday, gave Indiana a narrow lead at 78-77 with her basket and free throw.
Pre-game news from the Dream announced the absence of point guard Jordin Canada due to illness. Jaylen Sherrod stepped in, making her first career start in her third WNBA season. Additionally, Atlanta forward Brionna Jones missed the game with a left leg injury, with no set timetable for her return according to Coach Karl Smesko.
The Dream, facing challenges, trailed 36-27 in the second period before Angel Reese’s leadership helped them with a comeback. Reese ended with 15 points, 14 rebounds, and six assists. Atlanta used a 17-4 run to take a 44-40 lead by halftime.
