March on Washington Highlights Support for Political Change

Fox News Digital interviewed participants and activists at the recent March on Washington. Many attendees expressed their desire for significant political change. They discussed implementing systemic reforms and introducing socialist policies in their communities. This comes as candidates backed by the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) gain traction ahead of upcoming midterm elections.

Sravya, a participant from Washington, D.C., spoke about the importance of updating foundational documents. ‘I would advocate for abolishing the Constitution and rewriting it to include voices previously left out. We should revise oppressive amendments targeting marginalized groups.’

The event, ‘March on Washington 2026: Defend the Vote,’ took place at the Lincoln Memorial, marking 63 years since the original 1963 March on Washington organized by Rev. Al Sharpton’s National Action Network. Fox News Digital questioned attendees on their support for abolishing the Constitution and aligning with DSA policies. Many expressed agreement.

Democratic figures such as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Sen. Bernie Sanders addressed the crowd, focusing on voting and civil rights protections. Sravya also mentioned the need for reforming or reconstructing the Senate, criticizing the longstanding leadership.

Others, like Darius from Maryland, supported dismantling ‘colonial structures’ harming marginalized groups. Abolishing the Senate is a DSA objective and several attendees echoed the call for greater systemic change. They also supported policies similar to those of Democratic Socialist Zohran Mamdani, the New York City Mayor.

DSA-backed candidates have recently succeeded in primaries across states like Colorado, New York, Pennsylvania, and Michigan. There is enthusiasm for electing more candidates inspired by Mamdani’s agenda.

A Michigan attendee, Kassandra, showed interest in her state adopting policies from Mamdani’s New York. Her priorities include universal healthcare, union support, and reducing political funding. A former volunteer for Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed, she emphasized the importance of human rights.

Esteban, a New Jersey resident working in New York, observed substantial changes since Mamdani’s election. ‘I have lived through different mayoral terms in various cities; this is the most significant change I’ve seen this quickly. So far, the changes are positive.’
