1 hour ago 0

First lady Melania Trump has revealed a $2 million scholarship initiative under her Fostering the Future program. This is part of a strategic partnership with Fox Corporation and IndyCar aimed at broadening educational opportunities for individuals transitioning from foster care. Fox Corporation and IndyCar are each contributing $1 million to establish scholarships at Indiana University and Purdue University dedicated to assisting former foster care youths.

The announcement took place at the White House in advance of the inaugural Freedom 250 Grand Prix of Washington, D.C., set for this weekend. This event underscores the linkage between education and sports. “The greatest achievement America can make is not in technology, infrastructure, or capital markets. It’s our children,” Melania Trump stated during the announcement.

President Donald Trump and Melania Trump were accompanied by key figures such as FOX Sports CEO Eric Shanks, Penske Corporation chairman Roger Penske, IndyCar president Doug Boles, Indiana University president Dr. Pamela Whitten, Purdue University vice provost Cherise Hall, and IndyCar Series drivers Scott Dixon, Alexander Rossi, Scott McLaughlin, and Graham Rahal. Youths from foster care backgrounds were also present at the Rose Garden event.

Eric Shanks and Doug Boles, both associated with Indiana, handed over checks to the first lady at the event. Shanks expressed, “Through work that we do daily at FOX Sports, we believe in investing in the future of America. Today, that commitment takes on an entirely new meaning.” He emphasized the collaboration with Melania Trump’s initiative as a means to support remarkable students in building successful futures. Members of the FOX Sports IndyCar broadcast team were present, and a car showcased “Be Best” and Fostering the Future branding.

The Freedom 250 Grand Prix of Washington, D.C. marks the first auto race on the National Mall, celebrating America’s 250th anniversary. The event will have live broadcast coverage on FS1 and FS2 on Saturday and on FOX on Sunday, with streaming available on FOX One. Each race car will sport special decals to demonstrate support for foster youth.

Fostering the Future was launched by Melania Trump in 2021 to provide college access, housing support, and transitional resources for foster youths aging out of the system. Nationally, less than 3% of these youths graduate college, but the initiative aims to address this gap.
