Michigan Family Found Dead in Suspected Murder-Suicide

Michigan authorities have identified a family found dead with gunshot wounds following a house fire in Grand Haven Township. The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident as a murder-suicide.

Victims Identified

The adults were named as Kristopher Karolkiewicz, 47, and Amanda Karolkiewicz, 39. Their children, who remain unnamed, included four boys aged 15, 12, 11, and 5, and two girls, both aged 11. Two of the children were adopted.

Authorities believe Kristopher Karolkiewicz is the suspect in the murder-suicide. Officials stated he set the fire at several locations inside the home after committing the murders.

Incident Details

The Grand Haven Fire Department responded to reports of smoke between 8:30 a.m. and 9 a.m. on Friday. However, firefighters initially couldn’t locate the fire. By 11:45 a.m., they returned to the 14900 block of Riverside Trail due to reports of white smoke.

All eight family members, along with pets, perished in the fire. The Michigan State Police arson team continues to investigate the fire’s cause and origin.

Family Background

Amanda Karolkiewicz and her two adopted daughters had recently traveled to China, visiting Shanghai Disneyland in mid-July, as noted on Amanda’s TikTok account.

Amanda’s stepfather, Steve Lawwill, expressed his grief, mentioning the joy that the family brought into their lives and the tremendous loss they now feel.

Authorities confirmed that no additional suspects are sought in this tragic event.
