2 weeks ago 0

Beastie Boys alum Mike D is preparing to release his debut solo album, “Thank You,” from his Mike D 5D project on August 28. This album signifies the first full-length release from a Beastie Boys member since 2011’s “Hot Sauce Committee Part 2.” Fans of the band have been eagerly awaiting another album for a long time.

What can you anticipate from “Thank You”? According to a press statement shared with Newsweek, the album features “dozen servings of sonically inventive post-electronic grooves and hypnotic hooks.” Mike D’s distinctive voice guides the listener through a unique musical experience that does not fit into conventional categories.

Alongside the album announcement, Mike D has released a visualizer for the song “True Colors” from the album, which is currently available for streaming.

The recording process for “Thank You” began as “experimental recording sessions” at Mike D’s home studio. These sessions initially featured his sons, Skyler and Davis. As the project developed, more contributors joined in. The album also boasts vibrant artwork by Can Can Press, Thad Higa, and Charles Deroyan.

Mike D shared his thoughts on the album, saying, “It’s been so much fun making this music with people I love and I have grown to appreciate in our collaboration. I hope it’s fun for others and not overly serious, because the world is quite strange and dark, with a focus on power that undervalues art, feelings, compassion, empathy, and equality.”

This endeavor keeps the legacy of the Beastie Boys alive, particularly through Mike D’s collaboration with his family.
