Pete Buttigieg addressed concerns of Northwest Indiana Democrats during a visit to Schererville. He assured them he plans to support their efforts for change. Buttigieg spoke to 275 Democratic volunteers backing U.S. Rep. Frank J. Mrvan and State Senate candidate Scott Houldieson. He emphasized the growing energy he encounters nationwide.
Buttigieg noted the public’s frustration with current conditions. However, he highlighted the opportunity to act in the upcoming weeks. He observed that many expected positive changes under the current administration, but faced increased living costs instead. Republicans, he argued, no longer defend their policies, resorting to voter manipulation attempts instead.
Buttigieg criticized Republican opponent Trevor De Vries for allegedly benefiting from failed redistricting efforts. He claimed this provided Democrats a chance to advocate against gerrymandering.
During a press conference, Buttigieg stated the need for Democrats to counter corporate influence in Indianapolis. He encouraged perseverance for positive change. Buttigieg shared an anecdote, recalling when his child asked if good always prevails. His response was action-driven: “Good wins when we see to it that it does.”
Houldieson appreciated Buttigieg’s support, acknowledging the timing’s motivational impact. Mrvan reported frequent interactions with local farmers struggling with diesel prices. He mentioned upcoming legislative efforts targeting companies like British Petroleum and NIPSCO, aiming to ease inflation’s burden on families.
