President Donald Trump recognized the accomplishments of over 120 Team USA Winter Olympians and Paralympians at the White House. At the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Games, American athletes secured 57 medals, including 25 golds.
The event marked a historic achievement, with the most U.S. gold medals won in a single Winter Olympics and the highest number of medals earned outside North America, totaling 33.
“Paralympians bring home their fifth straight gold medal in sled hockey, extending one of the greatest dynasties in all of international sports,” Trump stated, commending the team’s incredible performance.
The men’s and women’s hockey teams also triumphed over Canada in overtime, a point Trump highlighted during his address. He expressed admiration for their history-making achievements on the ice.
Trump had previously honored the men’s Olympic hockey team at his State of the Union address. Goaltender Connor Hellebuyck received the Presidential Medal of Freedom the same day.
Despite busy schedules preventing some athletes from attending the White House event, forwards Joy Dunne and Abbey Murphy were present. Trump acknowledged their contributions in his speech.
As a token of appreciation, Trump received a Team USA varsity jacket and a new pair of shoes. These served as mementos of the remarkable performances by American athletes.
Looking ahead, many athletes unable to attend are gearing up for the 2030 Olympic and Paralympic Games in the French Alps. Trump also mentioned the 2034 Winter Games will be held in Salt Lake City.
