Republican Colorado gubernatorial nominee and Marine veteran Victor Marx is forming an all-Marine team, confident they can tackle the growing democratic socialist movement influencing elections nationwide. He argues socialism is a step toward communism, stating, “There’s never been a successful socialism program.” Marx shared these views in an interview with Fox News Digital.

In June, Marx secured a victory in Colorado’s primary election focusing on public safety, social conservatism, and cost-of-living issues. His win contrasted with the Democratic Party’s progressive triumphs, including in Colorado, where democratic socialist Melat Kiros won over long-serving Rep. Diana DeGette. While Colorado’s primary outcomes were varied, Kiros’ win highlighted a trend of progressive successes across the U.S.

Marx responds to this perceived rise of socialism by promoting military discipline in government. He selected retired Marine Col. George Markert as his running mate to form an all-Marine ticket. Marx believes this team can inject the needed “steely spines” into Colorado’s governance.

With over 30 years in the Marine Corps, including roles at U.S. Central Command and Marine Logistics Groups, Markert moved into a private sector role focusing on North American infrastructure. Marx, founder of All Things Possible Ministries, positions himself and Markert as political newcomers with the discipline to challenge socialist influences.

Marx contrasts his approach with the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), describing them as organized and well-funded with intentions to reform Colorado governance completely. The DSA, supporting Kiros, advocates for police abolition, spotlighting public safety in political debates.

While Colorado faces crime rates above the national average, with 476 violent crimes and 2,593 property crimes per 100,000 residents in 2024 according to U.S. Department of Justice statistics, Marx criticizes state leaders for prioritizing speech regulation over family protection.

Marx challenges his opponent, Colorado Democratic Attorney General Phil Weiser, on the efficacy of increased government spending, arguing it hasn’t enhanced safety for Coloradans. Weiser, having confronted the Trump administration on several occasions, is seen by Marx as promoting softer crime policies.

“Government spending hasn’t delivered better results for Coloradans,” Marx stated, stressing that residents face higher costs with inadequate government services. “We’re one election away from significant change,” he said, attributing the rise of the DSA to the Democratic Party, not Republicans or Independents.
