Autumn Mowery, a lifelong fan of candlepin bowling, started working at a local alley at age 17. She quickly became enamored with the intricate pin-setting machines behind the lanes. Despite injuries and challenges, Autumn has a deep affection for these old machines, treating them like beloved employees. She talks to them, cheering them on during busy days.

In 2020, the alley faced closure, but Autumn, then just 18, persuaded the owner to give her three months to revive the business. Despite setbacks like storm damage and the impact of COVID-19, she persevered with support from her mother. Her mom, Amanda, taught her resilience, encouraging her to remain positive through tough times.

Autumn’s determination has extended beyond the lanes. She’s created a welcoming environment for those facing personal struggles, offering the bowling alley as a safe haven and informal therapy space. Her efforts have drawn people back to the alley, revitalizing the community’s interest in candlepin bowling.

With her fiancé Ryan Lounder, Autumn has further invested in the community. They organize food drives and communal activities, prioritizing support over financial gain. Despite the financial challenges, Autumn and Ryan remain committed to their mission.

The alley continues to test Autumn’s patience, but she remains dedicated. Her young son, Jackson, is growing up in this environment, instilling in him the spirit of the sport from an early age.
