Russian Oligarch Umar Kremlev’s Connection to Donald Trump Jr.’s Wedding

My colleagues and I spent days investigating a rumor involving a Russian oligarch and Donald Trump Jr.’s wedding in the Bahamas. We sought evidence to confirm Umar Kremlev’s attendance at the wedding, which took place on private islands. We scoured social media and tabloids, including Page Six and Hello! magazine, for any sign of Kremlev. Despite reviewing photos depicting guests like Jared Kushner and Eric Trump, we found no immediate evidence.

Intriguingly, we turned our attention to Kremlev’s social media profiles and discovered videos on Telegram posted over the wedding weekend. These videos showcased a tropical setting, and one captured our attention with its wicker patio furniture in the background.

The group photo showed Donald Trump Jr. and his bride, Bettina Trump, surrounded by family and friends. In the back row, the distinctive shaved head of Kremlev was visible. This finding helped reveal how Kremlev quietly financed much of the wedding expenses, including renting a private island.

ProPublica reviewed records and interviews attesting to Kremlev’s financial contributions. The picture also highlighted the presence of other Russian guests, sparking curiosity among attendees due to their absence in official photos. The story escalated rapidly; soon after its publication, the House Oversight Committee initiated an investigation into Trump Jr.’s ties to Kremlev.

Bettina Trump and Donald Trump Jr. posted a joint statement on Instagram acknowledging Kremlev’s financial support, describing the events as a generous wedding gift from their friend.

Kremlev’s link to Trump Jr. and his financial role in the wedding raised questions due to his ties to Russian security services, leading to sanctions by the Ukrainian government. Events ranged from the ceremony held on a historic island to parties attended by Kremlev following his visit to China.

The Caribbean-themed party on the second night saw guests enjoying a Junkanoo band and beachside DJ. Bettina Trump expressed joy for the unique celebration, which marked their paradise union.

According to Kremlev’s press office, he maintained a philanthropic stance, refraining from political discourse with Trump Jr. The office did not address payments from the Dubai entity directly.

On Sunday night, the couple danced beneath disco balls to Elvis Presley’s ballad, surrounded by nautical-themed decorations, including a seafood buffet and performers dressed as sailors. The fireworks worth $70,000 concluded the weekend, financed by Kremlev.

The association between Kremlev and Trump Jr. left lingering questions. A retired FBI official speculated that financial contributions might entail future obligations.
