Tiger Woods to Redesign Long Island Golf Course

1 hour ago 0

Tiger Woods and his design firm are embarking on a new project to revitalize a golf club that has been closed since 2021. The 15-time major champion, along with his team, will redesign the Tam O’Shanter Country Club located on Long Island, approximately 10 miles from the site of his 2002 U.S. Open victory.

The club, once famous, faced controversy in the early 2010s when reports emerged about club members engaging in inappropriate activities, leading to several outings involving prostitutes and strippers. In 2019, the property was sold with plans for a new housing development. However, the discovery of arsenic halted those plans, resulting in the club’s closure two years later.

Tiger Woods, observed at a match with Los Angeles Golf Club at SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, expressed his excitement about rejuvenating the course. “The opportunity to create a new golfing experience in the heart of Long Island’s Gold Coast, an area rich in history, is thrilling for our team,” Woods stated. “I cherish my memories of competing on Long Island, especially at Bethpage. The region boasts an extraordinary tradition in golf course architecture, and we are eager to add to that legacy with a course that will be enjoyed by golfers for generations.”

Brookville Mayor Dan Serota shared his enthusiasm about the project, stating, “Bringing Tiger Woods and TGR Design to this beautiful and historic area of Long Island presents an excellent opportunity. Merging the Gold Coast’s longstanding golf tradition with Tiger and his team’s expertise makes this a promising project for Brookville and the surrounding region.”

TGR Design, in partnership with The Armchair Collective—a private golf company that acquired the land in September—plans to include new practice facilities, a clubhouse, and a golf performance center. “Long Island is home to some of the nation’s most celebrated golf courses, and we’re excited to contribute to the area’s rich golfing heritage,” Woods mentioned in an Instagram post.

Woods has not played in a tournament since the 2024 Open Championship. After his arrest in March, he expressed a desire to participate in April’s Masters, but he ended up missing the entire 2026 season. Looking ahead, Woods is set to host the Hero World Challenge next month, where he might make a return to playing.
