Senate Candidate Graham Platner Faces New Allegations Amid Campaign

3 weeks ago 0

Graham Platner’s political campaign faced a new challenge over the weekend. Reports emerged that Platner previously exchanged explicit text messages with multiple women. The revelation adds to the controversies in Platner’s pursuit of the Democratic nomination in Maine. Amy Gertner, Platner’s wife, addressed the reports through a video shared on X.

In the video, Gertner refrained from discussing the texts directly. She described the media coverage as gossip and acknowledged the difficulties of marriage. With the video shot in selfie mode, Gertner expressed her desire for a genuine marriage, rather than a perfect one.

“There’s a group of media outlets and people who are willing to spread gossip. No marriage is perfect, and I don’t want a perfect marriage, I want my marriage,” she stated in the video.

The Wall Street Journal initially reported the texts, explaining that Gertner alerted the campaign in August. She aimed to address any potential political issues stemming from messages found on Platner’s phone. Campaign aides determined that the matters were private and handled by the couple, who married in 2023.

“Our marriage counselor helps, my personal counselor helps, Graham’s personal counselor,” Gertner affirmed in her Saturday video, emphasizing the strength of her marriage.

This incident isn’t the first controversy for Platner. He previously acknowledged having a tattoo recognized as a Nazi symbol. Additionally, he faced criticism for deleted Reddit posts that trivialized military sexual assaults and contained homophobic language. Platner’s campaign survived these disclosures during the Democratic primary, opposing former state Governor Janet Mills. Mills withdrew, making Platner the presumptive Democratic nominee.

The campaign has not yet provided comments in response to inquiries regarding these recent developments.
