States with the Highest Interest in Beer

10 hours ago 0

Beer has a rich history in the United States, dating back to colonial times. A new study from Innerbody Research sheds light on which states show the most interest in this popular beverage by analyzing Google Trends search data.

Wisconsin Leads in Beer Interest

According to the research, Wisconsin has maintained its position as America’s beer capital for the second consecutive year. The firm labels the Midwest as ‘America’s beer belt,’ mentioning that states like Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Missouri are among the nation’s top ten in terms of beer interest. These Midwest states dominate due to a deep-rooted beer culture and an invigorated craft beer industry.

Regional Beer Preferences

The study also highlights regional beer brand dominance as influenced by historical factors. Miller holds sway in Wisconsin because it was among the first to enter the market there, whereas Budweiser leads in St. Louis. Samuel Adams launched in Boston, becoming a significant craft brewer with national distribution.

Wyoming and Other States of Interest

Following Wisconsin, Wyoming scored high in beer-related searches. Kansas, Nebraska, and Iowa followed suit, showing strong interest as well. On the Pacific coast, states like Alaska, Washington, California, Oregon, and Hawaii showed lesser interest.

Brand Loyalty and Beer Choices

Michelob Ultra emerged as the top brand in several states, reflecting a preference for options with lower calories and alcohol by volume. Stella Artois was favored in states such as Arizona, Florida, and others. Research indicates that regional brand exposure at the legal drinking age impacts consumer preferences later in life.

Sales vs. Search Data

Michelob Ultra recently surpassed Bud Light and Modelo Especial as the top-selling beer in the U.S. by volume. Bart Watson of the Brewers Association notes that search interest doesn’t directly correlate with sales, indicating trends and new interests among consumers.

While beer preferences vary by region and exposure, the fun aspect of beer remains constant. This analysis provides insights into regional beer interests and brand preferences without taking sales figures too seriously.
