Sunny Hostin, co-host of “The View,” revisited a key moment from 2024 involving former Vice President Kamala Harris. During an event on Monday, Hostin termed Harris’s response to a question about distancing from President Joe Biden as “problematic.” Brian Teta, the show’s executive producer and host of “Behind the Table” podcast, called it a “seminal moment” of the election cycle.
Hostin described her question to Harris as a “gift,” expecting the former Democratic nominee to highlight the achievements of their administration while emphasizing her unique experiences as a woman of color and child of immigrants. Instead, Harris’s inability to point out specific accomplishments surprised Hostin.
Harris’s response, or lack thereof, featured prominently in post-election discussions. It was included in Harris’s memoir “107 Days” and in a political ad for Donald Trump. In her book, Harris expressed regret for not handling the question better and providing a moment the opposition could exploit.
Both Ana Navarro and Sara Haines, fellow co-hosts, expressed doubts about Harris’s viability as a future presidential candidate. They noted the Democratic Party’s desire for fresh energy and new leadership. Haines pointed out that this would be Harris’s third electoral run, raising questions about whether she is the best choice for Democrats.
“If the Democrats want to win, I don’t think she’s the right candidate,” Haines commented during the show.
Although Joy Behar has stated her skepticism about the electorate’s willingness to elect a woman president, she has suggested that the Democratic nominee should be a man if the party wishes to secure victory. Hostin herself once speculated that Harris might have pursued a gubernatorial position in California instead.
The Media Research Center has criticized “The View” for allegedly acting as a propaganda platform for the Democratic Party. Nicholas Fondacaro, associate editor at NewsBusters, suggested that Hostin intended her question as an opportunity for Harris to present a strong response. He claimed that it showed bias, given the show’s wide broadcasting reach.
