Sydney Towle, a prominent social media content creator known for her positive outlook while living with a rare cancer, has died, as reported by her family. She was 26 years old.

Diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma, a rare and aggressive cancer affecting the bile ducts, in August 2023, Towle shared her journey with her followers. Her mother, Elizabeth Morrow, and her brother, Austin Towle, confirmed her passing in a video on her TikTok account, stating, “Syd went peacefully last night after an almost three-year long battle with cholangiocarcinoma.” They expressed their pride in her and thanked supporters for their encouragement.

Her family remembered her fondly as “an endless ray of sunshine” and noted her vast network of friends. Born on November 15, 1999, in Newburyport, Massachusetts, she grew up in Hobe Sound, Florida. According to the New York Times, she passed away at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland.

Before her diagnosis, Towle had already established a significant social media presence. She shared her life, hobbies, and positive mindset with over 1 million followers on TikTok. Towle was enthusiastic about the beach, surfing, and running, sharing these passions with her audience. Even after being diagnosed at 23, she continued to document her experiences candidly, balancing videos of her favorite activities with those taken during hospital visits or chemotherapy sessions.

In a heartfelt video shortly after her diagnosis, she stated, “I’m in good spirits, I’m smiling. If anything, it just makes me appreciate life more.” This philosophy defined her social media presence, inspiring many to face their challenges with hope and resilience. Her mother, in a column advocating for increased research funding for this rare disease, described Towle as “a beacon of hope for many through her raw and honest online presence.”

Towle was a Dartmouth College graduate, having completed her studies in government and environmental studies in 2022. She worked as a social media manager at Epic Games. Despite her health challenges, Towle was determined to run in the 2026 New York City Marathon to support the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation, raising more than $10,000 for the cause.

Her father, Philip Towle, passed away in 2016. Sydney Towle is survived by her mother and brother, who continue to remember and celebrate her life and enduring spirit.
