Slovenian cyclist Tadej Pogačar secured his fifth victory in the Tour de France on Sunday. He completed the prestigious race in a total time of 73 hours, 56 minutes, and 26 seconds. Pogačar finished almost six and a half minutes ahead of runner-up Remco Evenepoel from Belgium.
The final stage of the Tour began around 5:50 p.m. local time at the famous Champs-Élysées in Paris. It ended just before 8 p.m. Due to wildfires in southwest France, the start was delayed and the route was shortened. Security personnel originally allocated for the race were needed to help with the ongoing fires.
Initially, the final stage was planned to start in Thoiry, approximately 56 kilometers west of Paris. Instead, riders commenced in central Paris for the last segment. Dutch cyclist Mathieu van der Poel claimed victory in this stage with a time of 1 hour, 58 minutes, and 49 seconds.
With this achievement, Pogačar joined an elite group of cyclists. He now shares the record for the most Tour de France wins with Jacques Anquetil, Eddy Merckx, Bernard Hinault, and Miguel Induráin. Lance Armstrong, who once held seven titles, was stripped of them due to doping violations.
