Teen Arrested in Penn State Student’s Murder, Second Suspect Wanted

A 16-year-old suspect has been arrested in Colorado in connection to the murder of Penn State student Billy Schmidt. This arrest was announced by U.S. Marshals, while Philadelphia police verified that both suspects, aged 16, will be prosecuted as adults for the crimes committed on June 6, involving robbery and shooting.

The second suspect, Kaiseem Smith, is still at large, prompting authorities to release a wanted poster. Additionally, authorities conducted a search near the University of Notre Dame campus on Saturday night following reports of gunfire in the Eddy Street Commons area, where Notre Dame’s football team was playing against Michigan State.

The university’s emergency alert system informed that the suspect was last observed along the southern campus edge. Instructions were given for people in the stadium to remain there and for others on campus to shelter in place. The suspect is described as a heavy-set Black male, wearing blue shorts, a black shirt, and one white shoe.

St. Joseph County Dispatch received a call reporting the incident at approximately 7:37 p.m., as covered by ABC57. One individual was taken to the hospital, though details about their condition were not immediately disclosed. Authorities continue to urge the public to avoid the area during the search.
